It has been revealed that the anime "Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games", based on the manga by Eri Ejima currently being serialized in "Monthly Comic Flapper" (KADOKAWA), will be broadcast as a TV anime in 2025. The main cast has also been announced, with Ikumi Hasegawa as Mitsuki Aya and Kana Ichinose as Yoemio. A teaser visual showing Mitsuki Aya and Yoemio passing each other inside the school building has been released.
Hasegawa, who plays Mizuki Aya, who has been familiar with fighting games since elementary school and enrolled in Kurobi Girls' Academy because she admired the rich girls, commented, "This work is a story about girls who attend a school for rich girls becoming passionate about fighting games. I'm not very knowledgeable about games in general, but when I read the original work for the first time, I was overwhelmed by the "passion" that came from the girls, and I wanted to feel that excitement through Aya too. Ichinose, who plays Yoemio, a girl who is nicknamed "Lady Shirayuri" because of her beautiful appearance and elegant manners, but whose true identity is an avid fighting game player, said, "When I read the original work during the audition, I thought it was a work with an incredible impact. I hope people will enjoy seeing how the story progresses with this unlikely combination of a rich young lady and fighting games."
Original author Ejima commented, "I'm not an expert on fighting games, nor have I played a lot of them, so I wrote 'Tai Ari Deshita' based solely on momentum, and to be honest, when I reread it, I often find myself regretting and thinking, 'I guess momentum wasn't enough to disguise the shallowness...' But as for the anime, the director has played far more fighting games than I have, so I feel I can leave it to him with confidence!"
