A new visual has been released in response to the opening of the new chapter "GGC (Global Game Competition)" arc of the second season of the TV anime "Shangri-La Frontier," based on the manga currently being serialized in "Weekly Shonen Magazine" (Kodansha). The setting of the new chapter is the "real" world, and the visual depicts Sanraku, Amane Towa, and Oikatzo, rather than their in-game avatars. New characters Natsume Megumi and Sylvia Goldberg have also appeared.
It was also announced that Yumi Uchiyama and Minami Takahashi will play Natsume Megumi and Sylvia, respectively, as additional cast members. Natsume Megumi is a professional fighting gamer who belongs to the same team as Uoomi Kei, Nitro Squad. Her player name is "Nu2meg." She is a starter on Japan's top team and has top-class skills in the country.
Sylvia is the only female member of StarRain, one of the strongest fighting game teams in the United States. Five years ago, she won every match in the amateur division of a fighting game tournament, taking no damage. She then showed overwhelming strength in an exhibition match against a pro gamer, making a shocking debut. Five years later, she is still the strongest pro gamer in the United States, and continues to set brilliant records.
In the new chapter, Sanraku, Pencilgon, and Oikatso will temporarily switch games and join forces in the "real" world.
The work is a comic adaptation of a popular light novel on the novel posting site "Shosetsuka ni Naro". The story is about a gamer who loves crappy games, Yomu Rakuro, who challenges the godly game "Shangri-La Frontier" with 30 million players. The series began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Magazine" in July 2020.
The first season of the TV anime was broadcast on the MBS/TBS network's Sunday 5pm anime slot from October 2023 to March 2024. The second season has been airing in the same slot since October 2024. It will be broadcast for two consecutive seasons.
