It has been revealed that the serial drama "Tokyo Holiday" (TV Tokyo, Thursday midnight 12:30), starring popular Thai actor Gulf Kanawut and actress Miori Takimoto, will begin airing on April 3rd. The story is said to be like a modern version of "Roman Holiday," in which a Thai national actor who is so busy with work that he is on the verge of losing something important, meets the heroine in Japan and falls in love with her. This will be Gulf's first appearance in a Japanese drama, and his first leading role.
Gulf appeared in his first lead role in the drama "TharnType" in 2019, garnering attention in Japan. He is affectionately known by his Japanese fans as "Galpi." In this series, he plays Atit, a popular Thai actor who is swamped with work but seeks refuge in Japan, where he can spend his time freely without worrying about the eyes of others.
Takimoto plays Sakurako Ishida, the only daughter of Tokiwa, a sweet shop beloved by locals for many years. She runs the shop on her own in place of her father, who is hospitalized due to a broken bone, but when she meets Atit, she falls in love with him briefly but bitterly.
◇Comment from Gulf
I am very honored and excited to be able to appear in this drama. I also think that working with the Japanese director, cast, and staff will be a very good experience and a new experience for me.
I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this series and I hope the fans love it.
◇Comment from Miori Takimoto
It's like a reverse "Roman Holiday" set in Tokyo! I really enjoyed reading it. It's not just a love story, it's also about parent-child love, friendship, the joy of helping others at work, and it's a gentle story that reminds you of your roots from every angle.
There is a tendency to limit herself, believing that her life might have been different if she had ventured out into the wider world, but I am looking forward to seeing how Sakurako will view her own world after meeting Atit, and I look forward to playing the role.
I have only just met Gulf-san, but I was able to see his kind, gentlemanly, and charming side. During the reading, he worked hard on his Japanese lines, and I really admire his wonderful attitude of thinking about how to expand on his role.
We would like to create this drama with love so that it can become a timeless masterpiece like "Roman Holiday," so please look forward to it.
