It has been announced that the TV anime "SAKAMOTO DAYS," based on the popular manga by Suzuki Yuto that is currently being serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), will begin airing on TV Tokyo and other networks every Saturday at 11pm starting January 11, 2025. The second season has also been announced, with it set to air on the same network and other networks at midnight every Monday starting in July of the same year.
It was also announced that singer-songwriter Vaundy will be in charge of the opening theme "Run SAKAMOTO." Vaundy commented, "I loved the original manga, and the power of the illustrations, the story development, and the addictive gap between everyday life and the killing spree, so I'm very happy to be entrusted with the opening theme for the first anime adaptation of such an important work. I created "Run Sakamoto" hoping that the song would convey the overwhelming strength that no one can catch up with, of the main character Sakamoto, who everyone is chasing after. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to record in London, and the sound turned out to be a little different, so I feel that I have done my best. I hope that it will become a song that runs together with the original manga, the anime, and everyone."
The key visual, which shows the owner Sakamoto Taro and his unique friends gathered in front of Sakamoto Shoten, and the main PV have also been released. The main PV depicts the peaceful daily life of Sakamoto Taro, who follows the "Sakamoto family motto," the friends surrounding him, and a powerful action scene with an assassin targeting Sakamoto, who has a 1 billion yen bounty on his head.
"SAKAMOTO DAYS" is an action manga that has been serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" since November 2020. The story follows Sakamoto, a former legendary assassin who runs a shop after retiring, as he fights approaching assassins with his friends to protect the peaceful daily life he lives with his beloved family.
The anime will be directed by Watanabe Masaki, who has worked on the "Battle Spirits" series and "Bartender," and will be produced by TMS Entertainment, which has also worked on the "Lupin the Third" series. Sugita Tomokazu will play the main character, Sakamoto Taro.
