It has been revealed that the popular romantic comedy manga "The Quintessential Quintuplets" by Haruba Negi, which is also popular as an anime, will be adapted into a stage play, "Stage 'The Quintessential Quintuplets'," to be performed from March 8 to 23, 2025 at Shinagawa Prince Hotel Stella Ball (Minato Ward, Tokyo). It was also announced that 11 4th generation members of idol group "Hinatazaka46" will play the heroines, the quintuplets of the Nakano family.
The 11 members will play the quintuplets in double or triple casts, with Konishi Kanami and Takeuchi Kirari playing the eldest sister Nakano Ichika, Ishizuka Yoko and Shimizu Rio playing the second sister Nakano Nino, Miyaji Sumire and Watanabe Rina playing the third sister Nakano Miku, Shogenji Yoko, Hirao Honoka and Fujishima Kaho playing the fourth sister Nakano Yotsuba, and Hiraoka Kurage and Yamashita Haruka playing the fifth sister Nakano Satsuki. Visuals of the 11 members dressed as the quintuplets were also released.
The script and direction of the play will be handled by Yamazaki Akira, the music director by Kusunoki Takuya, and the choreography and staging by Noda Yuki. The play will also include singing and dancing.
"The Quintessential Quintuplets" depicts the story of a high school student living a poor life, Uesugi Futaro, who becomes a tutor to quintuplets with unique personalities who are on the verge of failing, and his struggle to lead them to graduation. The series was serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine from August 2017 to February 2020. The comic series has sold over 20 million copies in total.
The first season of the TV anime aired from January to March 2019, and the second season, "The Quintessential Quintuplets ∫∫," aired from January to March 2021. The animated film "The Quintessential Quintuplets" was released in May 2022 and was a hit, grossing approximately 2.24 billion yen and attracting approximately 1.7 million viewers. "The Quintessential Quintuplets∽", a film adaptation of an original episode that had not previously been depicted in the anime series, was released in theaters in July 2023. The new anime "The Quintessential Quintuplets*" was released in theaters in September, ahead of its TV broadcast.
