Kawai Ikuko, known as a "passionate violinist," will appear on Kuroyanagi Tetsuko's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), broadcasting at 1:00 pm on October 25th. After her divorce, she raised her daughter alone, and now she is 18 years old. She is fluent in English, and she says that she acts as her manager during overseas performances. She also revealed that she has been able to enjoy traveling with her daughter in between overseas performances.
Kawai's compositions are often used in figure skating programs, and Shizuka Arakawa and Yuzuru Hanyu have danced on the ice to Kawai's music. This time, she will perform "Yugao - From the Tale of Genji -," which Arakawa used, accompanied by Japanese instruments.
Last September, Kawai's mixed orchestra of Japanese and Western instruments, "Hibiki," held a performance in New York. Western and Japanese instruments have different musical scores, making it difficult to play together, but today's young Japanese instrument players can easily jump over that barrier.
