It has been announced that the manga "I Want to Eat Me, Animu" by Naekawa Sai, which is currently being serialized in "Dengeki Maoh" (KADOKAWA) and other publications, will be adapted into a TV anime in 2025. It was also announced that voice actress Ueda Reina will play the protagonist, Yaotoshi Hinako, a girl who wishes for death.
"I Want to Eat Me, Animu" is a manga that has been serialized in "Dengeki Maoh" since October 2020. Set in Ehime Prefecture, it is a suspense story depicting the beautiful yet sad encounter between Hinako, a girl who wishes for death, and Shiori, a mermaid who desires her flesh and blood. Shiori protects Hinako until she matures and reaches her peak condition, promising that "I will eat her someday," and Hinako has a heartfelt thought in her heart that "Maybe this person can make my wish come true." The latest 9th volume of the manga will be released on October 25th.
The anime will be directed by Kuzuya Naoyuki and Suzuki Yusuke. Hirota Mitsuki is in charge of series composition and scriptwriting, while Ikuyama Sou is in charge of character design. The series will be produced by Studio Rings. A teaser visual featuring Hinako and a teaser PV featuring Hinako and Shiori have also been released.
Original author Naekawa commented, "I can't believe it, 'I Want to Eat Me, Monster' is being made into an anime. Naekawa himself is the most surprised of all. I owe this precious opportunity to all the readers who have supported Watatabe for so long. Thank you so much! I too am looking forward to seeing how the characters in Watatabe speak and move. I hope everyone will look forward to it!"
Ueda, who plays Hinako, said, "Hinako doesn't have the energy to feel emotions right now, and I've heard that she is calm rather than angry or resentful about her past or current situation. I'll try my best to approach the dubbing while keeping in mind the comfortable darkness of the work as a whole and carefully picking up what is there within it. I hope you will also enjoy the anime version of 'Watanabe.'"
