It was revealed on October 20th that the popular character Rilakkuma, who will celebrate his 20th anniversary in 2023, will be turned into an anime by Production I.G, the studio behind the Ghost in the Shell series and Haikyu!!. A promotional video directed by Itatsu Masami, known for works such as The Concierge at the North Pole Department Store, was also released on YouTube. The video shows a hungry Rilakkuma enjoying an adventure in a dream world while meeting Kiiroitori, Korilakkuma, and Chai-roikoguma.
It was also announced that Ikuta Rira, who is also active as a member of the music group YOASOBI, will perform the theme song "stay with me".
Rilakkuma is a popular character from San-X, and the first series of merchandise was released in 2003. Anime such as Rilakkuma and Kaoru and Rilakkuma and the Amusement Park have also been produced.
