On October 20th, actors Hoshino Mari and Kato Rosa appeared at a press conference in Tokyo for the drama series "Kimi no Tsugu Kaori wa" (TOKYO MX, Friday 9:25pm), in which they co-star and which begins on November 8th. When asked about an episode related to her first love, Hoshino surprised everyone by confessing, "I was rejected many times."
When asked about the circumstances, Hoshino explained with a wry smile, "When I became a junior high school student, I fell in love with a sporty boy in the soccer club. I tried and got rejected, but I couldn't give up, and I tried again and again, but I couldn't give up, and I continued to think about it for three years, and I was a bit persistent..." She continued with a smile, "Because it didn't come to fruition, I couldn't move on to the next thing. It's a painful memory, but it's a precious one."
In response to the same question, Kato began by saying, "I gave chocolate for the first time on Valentine's Day when I was in the fourth grade of elementary school..." and continued, "I was embarrassed to give it directly, so I put some baked cookies in the mailbox of the girl I liked, but I forgot to write who it was from, even though I wrote "To Mr. So-and-so."
She continued, "I was in the same class as that girl, and we probably had mutual feelings for each other, as we would make eye contact before that. She was like, 'It's you, isn't it?', and I looked at her like, 'But it's me,' but in the end we didn't say it. Since we didn't say it, we didn't have White Day or anything. It was bittersweet (laughs)."
The drama is based on Ogawa Maruni's romance manga "Kimi no Tsugu Kaori wa." It is a story of first love and family love that is woven between two generations of parents and children through "scents." Hoshino plays Hirose Sakura, a mother of one child who cannot forget her first love, and Kato plays Hoshii Mone, a woman whom Sakura secretly had a crush on during her university days.
