The 60th anniversary project for the monster movie "Gamera" series is about to get fully underway, with the first event being the "Showa Gamera Film Festival," which will be held at Kadokawa Cinema Yurakucho (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) and other locations from December 5th.
4K digital restorations of the first film in the series, "Gamera the Giant Monster" (1965), the second film, "Gamera vs. Barugon" (1966), and the third film, "Gamera vs. Gyaos" (1967), have been produced and will be screened.
The 4K digital restoration of the three films was supervised by director Higuchi Shinji, who served as special effects director for "Gamera: Guardian of the Universe," "Gamera 2: Attack of Legion," and "Gamera 3: The Awakening of Irys," along with Ogura Shunichi, who has overseen the 4K digital restoration of many classic films.
A video of Director Higuchi's comments was also released.
