It has been announced that a special program looking back on the achievements of five Japanese female golfers who participated in the LPGA (American women's golf) tour for the first time this season and achieved brilliant results, "LPGA Women's Golf Tour 2025 THE ROOKIES: A Year of Innocence, Eternal Brilliance," will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Live and WOWOW On Demand from 9:00 PM on December 20th.
The five athletes appearing on the show are Takeda Reo, Baba Saki, Iwai Akemi and their twin sisters Chirei and Yamashita Miyu.
Takeda won the Blue Bay LPGA in March, and Baba tied for sixth at the Ford Championship in March. Chirei Iwai won the Mexico Riviera Maya Open in May, and her sister, Akemi, won The Standard Portland Classic in August.
Yamashita became the sixth Japanese player to win a major at the AIG Women's British Open in July and August, and recorded her second tour win at the Maybank Championship held in October and November.
Currently, this year's Rookie of the Year rankings are dominated by Japanese athletes, with Yamashita in first place and the top four spots, making it certain that she will become the first Japanese athlete to win the award for two consecutive years, following Mao Saigo last year.
The program looks back on the past year of the five rookies from various perspectives, focusing on their origins as golfers, turning points in their careers, and their visions for the future.
