It has been announced that "GATE SEASON 2: Thus the JSDF Fought There," a popular light novel series by Takumi Yanai, will be adapted into an anime. The series began serialization in 2006, and the TV anime "GATE: Thus the JSDF Fought There" aired in 2015 and 2016. After about 10 years since the TV anime first aired, it will once again be adapted into an anime. "GATE SEASON 2" will be directed by Toru Takahashi and produced by Studio M2.
The "Gate" series is a popular light novel series that has sold over 7.3 million copies. "Gate SEASON 2" is set on the open seas of another world, where the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force is active.
Original author Yanai said, "Tozai, tozai (East and West)! The sun rises in the eastern sky, and the sun sets in the western sea. Traversing time, crossing gates, and spanning the world, I present to you my work, "GATE SEASON 2: Thus the JSDF Fought There," which has once again been made into an anime. The story is a world woven with every stroke of the pen, with all the emotion I feel as I take up my pen. I am grateful beyond words to the production team who have breathed life into this story with the power of pictures, sound and voice. Japanese anime has now become a wind that soars across the world, transcending the barriers between East and West. And so it is for this reason that I hope this story will reach the hearts of all of you out there, from every nook and cranny!"
