Actor Mone Kamishiraishi attended the press conference for the art exhibition "Impressionism from the Musee D'orsay - A Tale of Interiors" held in Tokyo on May 13th.
When asked which works she was looking forward to, Kamishiraishi, who serves as the exhibition's ambassador and audio guide navigator, replied, "I'm really looking forward to Monet's 'Corner of an Apartment.'" She continued, "Light is streaming in from the window at the back of the room. It's a really beautiful painting, and it feels like the kind of interior painting that only Monet, who was good at capturing light, could paint. Even just looking at the pictures is so wonderful, I can't wait to see the real thing with my own eyes."
Since her own name is the same, she said with a smile, "I can't help but support Monet. I feel a sense of closeness to her."
Furthermore, in keeping with the theme of "indoors," she revealed that a hobby that can only be enjoyed indoors is reading. "I love reading, and I read whenever I have free time. This time, Renoir's "Girl Reading" will be on display, but she is not as beautiful as him; she wears strong glasses and has messy hair; it's not the kind of look you would want to see painted," she revealed.
The exhibition will be held at the National Museum of Western Art in Ueno, Tokyo (Taito Ward) from October 25th to February 15th, 2026. With a focus on around 70 masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, also known as the "Hall of Fame of Impressionism," and around 100 other pieces including important works from Japan and abroad, the exhibition will trace the interests of Impressionist painters such as Manet, Monet, Degas, Renoir, and Cézanne in the theme of interiors and their expressive challenges. It will be the first time in about 10 years that the Musée d'Orsay's Impressionist collection has come to Japan on this scale.
