It has been announced that "Awashima Hyakkei," a manga by Takako Shimura, who is also known for "Aoi Hana" and "Hōrō Musuko," will be adapted into a TV anime and broadcast in 2026. It will be directed by Morio Asaka, known for "My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999," and produced by Madhouse. A teaser visual and ultra teaser video for the anime have also been released.
The story is set at the Awashima Opera School, where girls from all over the country gather to dream of performing on stage. It is a youth graffiti that depicts the irreplaceable days of Wakana, a freshman who enrolls in the school hoping to become a musical star, Kinue, the dorm director who continues to study while carrying the hopes of her best friend, and Emi, a beautiful scholarship student with an overwhelming presence. It also became a hot topic after being selected for the Excellence Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
Director Asaka commented, "Light and shadow. Past and future. Success and failure. These are words that may seem contradictory, but in fact they are side by side. I feel this strongly through working on this film, and even life and death are like old friends. Whether you have regrets or not, it is all a path that you have walked through. What is your dream? Whether you have achieved it or not, 'One Hundred Views of Awashima' is for everyone."
Character designer Kunihiko Hamada said, "I am very fortunate to have been able to absorb Takako Shimura's skillful and skilled drawings through character design. I will leave the directing to Director Asaka, and although it is difficult to capture the appeal of the original drawings in animation, I will challenge myself to see how well I can reproduce them. I also want to work hard to create a work that will convey the charm of Shimura to people who are unfamiliar with her and attract many more fans."
