Singer Kenichi Mikawa will be appearing on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which will be broadcast at 1:00 p.m. on May 12th.
She said that she was also grateful to the singer Noriko Awaya, who passed away at the age of 92 in 1999. This year marks the 27th anniversary of Awaya's death. Kuroyanagi had been close to Awaya, who was a friend of her mother, since she was a child. The two talked about their memories while watching a video of Awaya appearing on the show.
Last June, she celebrated her 60th year as a singer. Mikawa says she became a singer because of her stepmother. When she was two years old, her biological mother got tuberculosis and she was raised by her mother's older sister and her husband, but her stepfather died of a cerebral hemorrhage. Seeing her stepmother working hard to pay off her debts, she wanted to earn money quickly and make things easier for her, so she became a celebrity. Looking back, it seems like the past 60 years have flown by in the blink of an eye.
