It has been announced that all 26 episodes of the TV anime "Ghost in the Shell STAND ALONE COMPLEX (SAC)," based on the manga "Ghost in the Shell" by Masamune Shirow, will be premiered on YouTube one after another from 9 PM on May 2nd. One episode will be streamed every Friday at 9 PM from May 2nd to October 24th. Each episode will be archived and streamed for two days only.
"Ghost in the Shell SAC" is a science fiction anime series set in a highly networked society of the near future, depicting the activities of Public Security Section 9, who fight against cybercrime. It has gained popularity due to its realistic depiction of cyberpunk and its in-depth exploration of social themes such as terrorism, information control, and personal identity.
"Ghost in the Shell" is a science fiction manga that began serialization in 1989 in the "Young Magazine Pirate Edition," a supplement to the manga magazine "Young Magazine" (Kodansha). It depicts the offensive unit "Ghost in the Shell," led by Motoko Kusanagi, a full-body prosthetic (cyborg) with exceptional abilities in cyber warfare and combat, as they take on increasingly sophisticated and complicated violent crimes.
In addition to the animated feature films "Ghost in the Shell" and "Innocence" directed by Mamoru Oshii, "Ghost in the Shell SAC", "Ghost in the Shell ARISE" and "Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045" have also been produced. The live-action Hollywood film version starring Scarlett Johansson, released in 2017, also became a hot topic. The new TV anime series "Ghost in the Shell THE GHOST IN THE SHELL" will be broadcast in 2026.
