The 62nd Galaxy Awards (Broadcast Critics Association), which recognizes programs, individuals, and organizations that have contributed to the advancement of broadcasting culture, were announced on April 28th, and actress Hana Sugisaki was selected as the winner of the Individual Award in the Television Division. She was recognized for her performance in the drama "Unmet: The Diary of a Brain Surgeon" (Kantele/Fuji TV), which aired last year, in which she played the lead role, and in the TBS Sunday Theatre drama " Diamonds Sleeping in the Sea ," in which she co-starred with Ryunosuke Kamiki .
In its commentary, the judges explained, " Hana Sugisaki Hana has been highly praised for her outstanding acting skills in numerous dramas and films, including her role as the heroine in the NHK morning drama "Ochoyan," but it can be said that she has established a new acting style with these two 2024 dramas."
"In 'Unmet: The Diary of a Brain Surgeon,' not only did you naturally play the difficult role of a doctor whose memory is reset every day, but you also enchanted viewers with your realistic dialogue scenes with Ryuya Wakaba, which were like a documentary. Your acting was further refined in ' Diamonds Sleeping in the Sea,' where you made the mining town of Hashima, the setting of the drama, seem as vividly alive as a real community. In particular, in your confession scene with Ryunosuke Kamiki, your facial expressions, timing, lines, and gestures easily crossed the boundary between fiction and reality, and your acting was fresh and moved viewers' hearts. We are presenting you with an individual award in recognition of the new horizons you have pioneered in acting in television dramas," he said.
The Galaxy Awards were established in 1963 by the Broadcast Critics Association to recognize outstanding programs, individuals, and organizations in the hopes of improving the quality of Japanese broadcasting culture. The awards are given annually. Last year's individual award winner was Ryunosuke Kamiki.
