Actor Seiyo Uchino appeared at a cast event for the drama "PJ ~Air Rescue Team~" (TV Asahi, Thursdays 9pm), which he stars in and which began airing that evening, in Tokyo on April 24th, along with the main cast.
The story depicts trainees who aim to become pararescue jumpers (PJs) for the Air Self-Defense Force's Air Rescue Wing, an elite rescue unit known as the "last line of defense for saving lives." In reference to the theme of the work, when asked about "the moment that saved you in your life," Uchino shared an episode that narrowly escaped death, saying, "There are many, but the most memorable one was when I was almost drowning in the ocean when I was a child and was about to be swept away by the waves, and my father grabbed me (by the arm) and saved my life."
He plays the role of a head instructor who instructs the trainees with love and strictness, but he analyzed, "While playing this role, I felt that I was somewhat similar to Yoshida Shoin, so I (recently) started reading Yoshida Shoin's manga. I think he is a modern-day Yoshida Shoin in the way he ignites the dreams and motivation of young people."
The drama was produced with the full cooperation of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. The event was also attended by Fuju Kamio Anna, Anna Ishii Kentaro Maeda, Aoto Watanabe, "Ae! group"'s Kusuma Richard Keita, Atsuhiro Inukai, Maeda Hidekazu Mashima, Mashima Hidekazu, Hamada Gaku, Yoshikawa Ai, and Kyoka Suzuki.
