The third episode of NHK's "Saturday Drama 'After the Earthquake'" (General TV, Saturday 10pm), based on a short story published by Haruki Murakami after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, will be broadcast on April 19th. The third episode is "#3 'All God's Children Can Dance'" starring Daichi Watanabe.
"After the Earthquake" is a drama series based on four stories from Murakami's collection of short stories "All God's Children Dance" (published in 2000). The setting is not only changed from 1995 to 2025, depicting the 30 years of "after the earthquake" that continue from the "present".
The drama's script was written by Oe Takayoshi, who also wrote the film "Drive My Car," which was based on another Murakami novel, and the drama was directed by Inoue Go Inoue , who has worked on NHK's Asadora drama series "Amachan" in the first half of 2013.
In "#3 'All God's Children Dance'", Yoshiya (Kurokawa Soya) was born without a father. His mother (Igawa Haruka) told him, "You are God's child," and he grew up in a devout religious group. However, after the Great East Japan Earthquake, he lost hope for the future and stopped being a follower.
Ten years later, Yoshiya (Watanabe) finds a man with a missing ear on the subway. It is a characteristic of a man who could be his father. Who is his father? Yoshiya chases after the man...
