In the previous, 11th episode, Nobu (Imada), who is now a fifth-year student at a girls' high school in 1935, reunites with Lieutenant Takashima (Ichikawa Tomohiro) one day and receives an order for 200 bean-jam Anpan to be used in a bread-eating contest at a festival.
While the Asada family is excited by the big project since the opening of Asada Bakery, Takashi (Takumi Kitamura) cannot hide his agitation at the friendly relationship between Nobu and Kijima. Takashi does not know what he wants to do in the future. Hiroshi (Yutaka Takenouchi) advises Takashi to think hard until he finds something that suits him... and so the story unfolds.
In the 12th episode, Nobu is not allowed to participate in the bread-eating contest and says, "Girls are boring," and Taku is at a loss for words.
The day of the festival. The Anpan, and young people gather in the square one after another. Among them are Chihiro (Motoki Nakazawa) and Go (Kanata Hosoda). The bread-eating race finally begins, and Nobu hurries to carry the Anpan. Then Taka leaves his sash in Nobu's hands and leaves. The final group starts, and coming from the back of the pack of runners is...
"Anpan" is based on the married couple Takashi Yanase(1919-2013) and Nobu Komatsu(1918-1993), the manga artist and picture book writer who created "Anpanman." It is a "story of love and courage" that will make you feel the joy of living, depicting how these two, who were once nobody, overcame all sorts of rough seas to become "Anpanman," the embodiment of "unreversible justice."
