A new season of the popular anime "Ahare! Meisaku-kun" is in production and will air on TV Tokyo and its affiliates starting July 5th at 12:45 AM. The anime was previously broadcast on NHK E Tele from 2016 to 2022, with a new season, "Ryugu-hen," beginning streaming on YouTube in August 2022. This new season will be the first in approximately 3 years and 4 months since the final episode of "Ryugu-hen" was released in March 2023, and the first time the anime will be broadcast on television in about 4 years. The popular anime, which boasts over 500,000 YouTube subscribers and over 580 million total views, will be making a "comeback" on Sunday nights.
It was also announced that the band "Frederic" will be performing the theme song, "Nonsense Nonsense." A music video featuring the song has been released.
Director Taketo Shinkai, who is in charge of the anime, commented, "I'm so sorry to have kept you waiting! 'Ahare! Meisaku-kun' is restarting! The broadcast on E Tele ended in March 2022, and the Ryugu Middle Arc on YouTube ended in March 2023. We'll soon be able to show you a new episode after a 3-year and 4-month hiatus. I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to the cast members who are continuing to appear in the show, the staff who are working with me to create it, and everyone who has been waiting for 'Meisaku-kun'. From here on, it's my turn to give back."
"The new theme song is by Frederic. Frederic's playful music is a perfect fit for the image of 'Meisaku-kun,' so the moment his name came up, I said, 'Absolutely!' (Actually, Frederic is Tsuruko's go-to karaoke song. See the fan book.) The new series of 'Meisaku-kun' will start airing late at night on July 5th. Meisaku-kun and his friends are surely looking forward to meeting everyone," he said.
Frederick sent the following message: "This time, I tried to express the worldview of 'Ahare! Meisaku-kun,' nonsense gags, and the world of laughter in my own Frederick style. Since I was little, I have loved the time I spend laughing with others about silly things, and I think that even if it had no meaning, it was the trigger for creating room for playfulness and creativity. I created this song while reflecting on those feelings. Until now, I had never thought of writing a song with laughter as the theme, but I am grateful that the anime gave me the opportunity to take on a new challenge and that a wonderful song was born. Rather than rushing to find meaning or answers, just enjoy the lighthearted time! I hope that both children and adults can enjoy the bizarre and eccentric world of 'Nonsense Nonsense,' which is full of wordplay!"
"Ahare! Meisaku-kun" is a school comedy about Matsuda Meisaku and his friends as they strive to become the protagonists of classic stories. The TV anime started airing on NHK E-tele in 2016 and concluded in March 2022. In April of the same year, a crowdfunding project was launched to produce a new anime series. With support from 1,292 backers, approximately 20 million yen was raised, and a new season was produced, which began streaming on YouTube in August 2022.
