NHK Educational TV's science education program "Science ZERO" (Sundays at 11:30 pm) will be broadcasting a program titled "How do squids live? A look into their amazing survival strategies" on April 13th, which will explore the hidden secrets of the 400 million year evolution of squids, which are now thriving in oceans all over the world.
Squids thrive in oceans around the world, from the tropics to the deep seas. They are masters of camouflage, able to freely change the color of their bodies to deceive their enemies, but the latest research has revealed surprising survival strategies, such as the possibility that they use the color and pattern of their skin to communicate with each other and share their vision within the school.
Learning about the life of squids, who have overcome numerous crises, including the meteorite impact during the Cretaceous period, may give us some clues as to how we should live our lives from tomorrow onwards.
