Singer Shigeru Matsuzaki will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), broadcast on April 1st at 1pm. He will talk about his memories of actor Toshiyuki Nishida, who passed away at the age of 76 in October last year and was his best friend for 50 years.
They met at a club in Roppongi where Matsuzaki was playing the guitar and singing. Despite it being their first meeting, they improvised a song together, hit it off, and spent almost every day together after that. They also had dinner together 10 days before Nishida passed away, and something Nishida said at that time made a big impression on Matsuzaki.
When "Ai no Memory" released in 1977 became a hit, Nishida-san was happy for me as if it were his own success. He accompanied me to the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen and the Record Awards, and cheered me on, saying, "Matsu, do your best!" I sang "Ai no Memory" in the studio with Nishida-san's hat that was left behind.
