It has been announced that Studio Ghibli's animated feature film "Ocean Waves," said to be a "phantom masterpiece," will be shown in revival screenings nationwide from July 4th. The film was re-released in theaters at Bunkamura Le Cinema Shibuya Miyashita in Shibuya, Tokyo in March 2024, and became a long-running hit, but this will be the first time it will be shown in a revival screening nationwide. Various plans are planned, including the distribution of original special gifts to visitors. The screening will be limited to three weeks.
The film is based on a novel by Himuro Saeko that was serialized in the anime magazine Animage (Tokuma Shoten). Set in Kochi and Tokyo, the film depicts the precious days of protagonist Muto Rikako, Morizaki Taku and other high school students. Under the name of the "Studio Ghibli Young Production Group," it brought together the young staff of the time, including Mochizuki Tomomitsu as director, Kondo Katsuya as animation director, and Tanaka Naoya as art director.
Voice actors included Nobuo Tobita, Yoko Sakamoto, and Toshihiko Seki.
