It has been announced that the sequel to the short 3D animation "Milky Highway," which was released on YouTube as a graduation project by Yohei Kameyama, then a student at a video school, will be broadcast as the TV anime "Galaxy Express Milky Subway" from July 2022. "Milky Highway" has been a hot topic for its unique worldview and relaxed dialogue, and has been viewed a total of approximately 6.75 million times, making it popular both in Japan and overseas. For the sequel, Kameyama will be in charge of direction, scriptwriting, character design, modeling, animation, editing, etc. Kameyama commented, "Following the previous work, I tried to include everything I wanted in this one, including chatter, facial expressions, action, and sound effects. As a result, there were four times as many characters, the length was 12 times longer, and the production schedule took approximately two years, but I think it has turned out to be a new work with unprecedented visuals and tempo. Please enjoy the slightly bigger and returned Milky Universe!"
The story is about Chiharu, a cyborg, and Makina, a cyborg who are arrested for violating the Galactic Highway Traffic Act and are assigned to clean an interplanetary train known as the Milky☆Subway. It was supposed to be a simple task, but they end up getting caught up in a major incident...
Momoka Terazawa will play Chiharu, and Anna Nagase will play Makina. Terazawa commented, "When I was playing the characters in this work, I was acting almost naturally, so I took on the role with a fresh feeling!", and Nagase commented, "I hope you will pay attention to the snappy dialogue between Chiharu and me."
