Actor Hisahiro Ogura, who turned 70 last year, appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) broadcast on January 21. Ogura, who has been married to his wife, a former member of the Takarazuka Revue Company, for 31 years this year, talked about what the couple is obsessed with.
When asked by Tetsuko how he felt about turning 70, Ogura said that he had been impressed by an episode that Naga Rokusuke told on the radio a long time ago.
"When (Nagai-san) was asked about his age, saying 'I'm already 70' seemed a bit negative, while 'I'm still 70' sounded like he was forcing himself. So he thought of saying 'I'm finally 70.' That feeling has stuck in his mind..."
He said that he imitates Naga and says, "I'm finally 70," and added, "When I say this, (Ogura himself) feels more energetic. I realized that words are important."
When Tetsuko introduced Ogura, they were talked about as "Beauty and the Beast" when they got married. "I think she came to me a lot," he said with a shy smile. "She's kind. She's very observant, and she even got her chef's license."
Both the couple love animals, and Ogura has previously appeared on "Tetsuko's Room" with her beloved dog. After seeing a photo of the dog, Ogura said, "I was very sad when this dog passed away. I welcomed a new dog (Momomaro) into my home."
Tetsuko, who watched a video of Ogura's beloved dog Momomaro, exclaimed, "Oh, he's so cute!" Ogura narrowed his eyes and said, "He's a boy, so mischievous, he plays around by biting anything that happens. My wife loves animals and is very particular, so this time she's taking the trainer's exam (laughs). She's training the dog herself."
"When (Ogura-san) comes home, the dog comes to me. That display of affection is irresistible. It makes me feel a sense of self-affirmation," she said with a happy smile.
