It has been announced that "Sometimes Confession," the first new work in seven years from director Tetsuya Nakashima, known for "Confessions" and other films, will be released in June 2025. Based on the novel of the same name by Bunzo Uchiumi, Hidetoshi Nishijima plays the protagonist who lives with discord within his family, and Hikari Mitsushima and other star-studded cast members will appear.

The original novel is a story about the bond between parent and child, told through the eyes of a severely disabled child. Director Nakajima first encountered the novel about 20 years ago, and has always had the desire to create a film that would move the hearts of viewers.

Also appearing in the film were Kuroki Haru, Kudo Kankuro, Shibasaki Kou, Tsukamoto Shinya, Kataoka Tsurutaro, Sato Jiro, and Yakusho Koji. Nishijima will play Satake, a man who turned his back on his family, while Miyato will play Akeno, a man who made his child his source of sustenance, Mitsushima will play Satoko, a woman abandoned by her daughter, Kuroki will play Tamie, a woman who was unable to love the child she gave birth to, Sato will play Yonemoto, a man who was unable to show interest in others, and Shibasaki will play Yuki, a woman who dedicated everything to her child.

"This child would have been happier if he had never been born." That's the line in the film, but the child who was told this was born anyway, touching the hearts of many people and influencing their lives. An unwanted life is born, becomes someone's salvation, and proves that there is value in being born into this world. I think this is a film that confronts that issue head-on.

Some adults attack others excessively, some are unable to get back on their feet because they are still emotionally wounded, and some build walls around themselves and shut themselves in...How will these flawed adults change when they meet a young life that has been born with a severe disability?

It's been about 20 years since I read the original novel. I've always longed to make it into a film, but people kept telling me it would be difficult, and I faced many situations where it would have been impossible to cancel, but with the support and efforts of many people, including those who work with children with disabilities, it was finally completed. I strongly feel that the world's values ​​have changed little by little over the past 20 years, and the ground has finally been laid for people to accept this kind of film, and I couldn't be happier.

Like the main character, Satake, I am an extremely self-centered person, but I feel that my feelings are more honest than ever in this film. Considering the importance and weight of what I am trying to convey, there was no time for pretentious direction. There was no room for my ego as a director, and I have a strong feeling that it was made by everyone, including the staff and cast.
