It has been announced that Montgomery's timeless masterpiece "Anne of Green Gables" will be made into a TV anime. The anime series "Anne Shirley" will be broadcast on NHK Educational TV from April 2025. "Anne of Green Gables" was broadcast in 1979 as the fifth work of the "World Masterpiece Theater" series, directed by Isao Takahata, and will be animated again.
"Anne Shirley" will be produced by Answer Studio, which has worked on "The Door Lock" and "Your Name." It is a coming-of-age story that depicts Anne Shirley's growth from a girl to a woman through three pillars: "the bond between Anne, Marilla, and Matthew, a new family," "the friendship between Anne and Diana," and "the romance between Anne and Gilbert."
