"Human Gourmet Entry: Surprisingly Delicious Restaurants" (Chukyo TV/Nippon TV Network, Tuesdays at 7 PM) is a variety show that introduces "surprisingly delicious restaurants" that exceed expectations. On May 12th, the show will feature a casual cafe in Iizuka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, that serves delicious dry curry, and a Japanese restaurant in Shizuoka City that is popular for its fried shrimp.
◇Iizuka City, Fukuoka
This casual cafe in Iizuka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, has been in business for about 50 years. It's a homey place run by an 82-year-old master and a "moisture mama" who refills your water at just the right time. Specialties include the "dry curry" (700 yen) which comes with more than two cups of rice, and the "chicken cutlet curry" (950 yen) which comes with extra curry.
The owner, who effortlessly wields an iron frying pan and serves massive portions of food—so much so that young people call it a "heavy-food cafe"—says, "I'm not making any profit at all." Yet, he laughs it off, saying, "I'm just happy if I can make a living."
◇Shizuoka City
This Japanese restaurant in Shizuoka City is famous for its "Jumbo Fried Shrimp Set Meal" (3280 yen), which is 36 centimeters long. It's an impressive dish that is presented hanging on a special stand, and it pairs well with the homemade tartar sauce.
Furthermore, a new item has been introduced: the "Jumbo Eggplant Cutlet Rice Bowl" (3,980 yen). A giant cutlet, with two servings of special tartar sauce, is hung on top of a large eggplant from Kumamoto Prefecture wrapped in A5-grade Kuroge Wagyu beef.
The CEO brothers' "love for hanging food" knows no bounds. They even hang and sell extra-large fried shrimp at outdoor street performance events, but what unexpected incident occurred there?
The show's MC is entertainer Hiromi, and the host is Eiji Kotoge of the comedy trio "Viking". Guests include entertainer Maki Goto and Atsuhiro Tsuda of the comedy duo "Diane".
