The sixth episode of the TBS Tuesday drama "Toki Sude ni Osushi!?" (Tuesdays at 10 PM), starring actress Hiromi Nagasaku, will air on May 12th. Producer Chiaki Masuda spoke about the highlights and behind-the-scenes stories from the filming.
The drama tells the story of Minato Machiyama (played by Nagasaku), who, having finished raising her children, is bewildered by the "time to herself" that she finally has again at the age of 50, but begins her second life and jumps into a "sushi academy" where she can become a sushi chef in three months.
◇Highlights of Episode 6
The class enters its second half. At the sushi academy, while struggling with squid, Minato receives a call from the company informing her that Nagisa (played by Motoki Nakazawa) has fallen ill, and she goes into full mother mode for the first time in a while.
Spending time under the same roof for the first time in a while, Nagisa's suppressed emotions explode. Some viewers might think, "Ah, I've had moments like that before." As Nagisa reveals the feelings she's kept hidden in her heart, Minato also shows a side of herself that she's never shown before.
Squid are said to be creatures that grow and become independent quickly, but this sixth episode depicts the ideal distance between parent and child. There are some tense moments, but please watch it while thinking about your own family.
◇Behind-the-scenes stories from the filming of Episode 5
As the title "Caught Up in a Roll of Sushi" suggests, this episode unfolds in ways that Minato could never have predicted... It was refreshing to film outside the academy and do a lot of location shooting, and we also received cooperation from the people of Yaizu.
Denden-san, who plays Katsumi, the grandfather of Mori (Aoto) (played by Soma Santoki), and Sato Eriko-san, who plays his mother Atsuko, were both guests and looked sharp from the moment they put on their costumes during the costume fitting. Denden-san also practiced making sushi once, and it seemed that he had mastered the long-standing techniques of the character Katsumi just by feel. It was interesting to see how the character really came through in the way he made sushi. This episode also featured a lot of delicious food, including gourmet food from Yaizu, so I remember being captivated by the sushi that appeared one after another.
On the day we first met, Ms. Sato showed up with her Atsuko hairstyle already styled in mesh. I was surprised by her appearance, and at the same time, I could feel her dedication to the role, as she had thought deeply about the character herself. Atsuko's decorated truck is rarely seen, so the staff on set had a photo shoot.
Then, the large quantity of sushi rolls that Minato and the others had to hastily prepare were made by the supervising master chef. I was reminded once again that being able to witness the craftsman's skill as he focuses intensely on the task in a short amount of time is one of the great pleasures of behind the scenes of filming!
