A sports documentary featuring JRA (Japan Racing Association) jockey Seina Imamura, titled "The Day I Became a Jockey: Seina Imamura's Journey to Her First G1 Victory" (Kansai TV), will air on July 10th at 1:20 AM.
Jockey Imamura became the first female jockey in Japan to win the G1 race, the Oaks. It was the first time in history that a female jockey had even ridden in a classic race, let alone won it, and the one who achieved this remarkable first victory was Imamura, a 22-year-old jockey in only her fifth year since her debut.
After her victory, she murmured, "I've finally become a jockey." The program, based on exclusive coverage spanning six and a half years from her time at the jockey school before her debut, depicts the struggles, setbacks, and path to recovery of jockey Imamura that lay behind her glamorous victories. Through her own words and documentary footage, the program unravels the thoughts of a woman who never gave up on her dream and continued to struggle, thoughts that had never been revealed to the public before.
Eisuke Yamauchi, director of Kansai TV's sports department, appealed to viewers, saying, "When you look back on this year's historic Oaks race, I think you'll be able to watch it with a completely different feeling than the first time... I hope it will be that kind of work."
The program will be available on TVer from 3:00 PM on July 13th to 11:59 PM on July 27th.
