Singer and actor Masaharu Fukuyama attended the completion report meeting for his starring movie "Black Showman" (directed by Ryo Tanaka, scheduled for release on September 12th) held in Tokyo on August 11th. Fukuyama, who plays a former magician who made a name for himself in Las Vegas, made his entrance with a magic trick in which he suddenly appeared from behind a panel.
In his opening remarks, he asked, "Did it go well?", which drew loud applause from the audience. Fukuyama said, "Today was my first time doing it. When I arrived (at the venue), I was told, 'Please perform like this,' and the atmosphere was, 'You can do it, right?'" He revealed that it was a last-minute performance, and said, "That was the most nerve-wracking part."
The film is based on a novel by Keigo Higashino. Former junior high school teacher Eiichi Kamio is murdered by an unknown assailant. His daughter, Mayo Kamio (Kasumi Arimura), who was due to be married in two months, receives the sudden news of his death and returns to her hometown. Hoping to find out the truth about why Eiichi was killed, Mayo is visited by her uncle, Takeshi Kamio (played by Fukuyama). Armed with his exceptional magic tricks, his wicked sleight of hand, and his skillful people-watching and leading questions on a mentalist's level, Mayo takes on the mystery of the murder... this is the story.
Arimura and Director Tanaka also attended the completion report meeting, which was moderated by Fuji TV announcer Daijiro Enomoto.
