Actor Ryusei Yokohama won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 35th Japan Film Critics Awards and attended the awards ceremony held in Tokyo on June 1st.
Yokohama, who received the award for his role in the film "National Treasure," said in his acceptance speech, "I am happy to receive such recognition, and I feel rewarded. I want to live my role in a way that will help develop Japanese cinema. I will do my best so that many people will come to see the film in theaters."
Regarding the increase in kabuki audiences due to the "National Treasure" designation, he smiled and said, "I think we've fulfilled our responsibility when we see so many people coming to see kabuki. It was the same with the historical drama, but I had the opportunity to work with several kabuki actors, and they told me that 'the existence of the National Treasure has changed the way kabuki shows are performed,' which made me very happy."
The "Japan Film Critics Award" is a film award selected by film critics, which was started in 1991 by the late Haruo Mizuno.
