According to the box office rankings for May 29-31 (compiled by Kogyo Tsushinsha) released on June 1, "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Glogo" (directed by Jon Favreau), the first new film in the "Star Wars" series in approximately seven years, topped the box office for the second consecutive week. Over the three-day weekend, it recorded approximately 243,000 viewers and box office revenue of approximately 425 million yen. Cumulatively, it has surpassed 890,000 viewers and 1.5 billion yen in box office revenue.
Among the new entries, "The Sheep in the Box" (directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda), starring Haruka Ayase and Daigo of the comedy duo "Chidori," ranked 5th. Also debuting at 6th place was "Mononoke: The Movie - Chapter 3: Mononoke " (directed by Kenji Nakamura), the third and final chapter of the " Mononoke : The Movie" trilogy, a completely new theatrical film adaptation of the popular TV anime " Mononoke, " which aired on Fuji TV's late-night anime block "Noitamina" in 2007. Cumulatively, it has surpassed 5.18 million viewers and 7.1 billion yen in box office revenue. In 3rd place was "The Devil Wears Prada 2" (directed by David Frankel), which recorded approximately 149,000 viewers and 237 million yen in box office revenue over the three-day weekend, bringing its cumulative total to nearly 3 million viewers and 4.5 billion yen in box office revenue. In 4th place was the animated film "Detective Conan: Fallen Angel on the Highway" (directed by Takahiro Hasui), which recorded approximately 144,000 viewers and 220 million yen in box office revenue over the three-day weekend. In total, the film has attracted over 8.65 million viewers and grossed over 12.7 billion yen.
"SAKAMOTO DAYS" (directed by Yuichi Fukuda), now in its fifth week of release, ranked 7th, with a cumulative audience of 1.84 million and box office revenue of 2.5 billion yen.
