A stage greeting event celebrating the release of "Mononoke: The Movie Chapter 3 - Serpent God," the third and final chapter of the "Mononoke: The Movie" trilogy based on the popular TV anime "Mononoke ," was held on May 30th at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), with Hiroshi Kamiya, the voice actor for the main character, the Medicine Seller, in attendance. Regarding the third chapter, Kamiya said, "It's a film that brings together everything you want to see," and added, "Please get swept up in the whirlwind of images. And I would be happy if you could receive the message right up to the very end."
Looking back on the first and second chapters, Kamiya said, "The third chapter will show you why the Ooku (women's quarters of the Edo Castle) was created, and why there is a serpent god, a type of Mononoke, in the Ooku," and urged viewers, "I really want you to watch it without missing a single second." After the first and second chapters, he said that the third chapter "connects, and you will feel a sense of satisfaction as you think, 'So that's what it was all about.' It will be an incredible flood of visuals, but please bear with it," describing the appeal of all three chapters of "Mononoke: The Movie."
The event was attended by Yoshiko Sakakibara, who plays the role of Suikoin, the Emperor's mother; Daisuke Hosomi, who plays the role of Sakashita; Aina the End, who performed the theme songs for all three chapters; director Tomoaki Koshida; and general director Kenji Nakamura.
"Mononoke: The Movie" is set in the Ooku (women's quarters of Edo Castle), a place swirling with the passions of women, and follows a medicine seller as he tries to uncover the true identity of the "Mononoke." The first chapter, "Karakasa," was released in July 2024, and the second chapter, "Hinezumi," was released in March 2025. The third chapter, "Hebigami," was released on May 29th.
"Mononoke" is an anime produced by the same staff who worked on the popular episode "Bakeneko" from "Ayakashi," which aired on Fuji TV's Noitamina anime block in 2006. It aired on Noitamina in 2007. The story depicts a supernatural tale in which the medicine seller who appeared in "Bakeneko" confronts a Mononoke.
