Actress Yoshiko Mita appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on May 28th. She talked about how her grandchild discovered her grandmother's job and how she was blessed with goodwill during her end-of-life planning.
When she told her grandchild that she would be appearing on "Tetsuko's Room," he replied, "Oh, Kurotetsu? Tell him I said hello." Her grandchild has started saying "such cheeky things," and she smiles, saying, "He's so cute, so cute, and everything's okay (because he forgives me)."
My grandchildren call me "Grandma." I've never told them I'm an actress. I remember taking my two grandchildren, who were in upper elementary school at the time, to see a movie. There was a scene at the end where I appeared as Grandma. "No matter how much I'm dressed up, Grandma is still a grandmother. You can see a resemblance to me in the role," I said, and when my two grandchildren saw the scene, they both asked, "Is that Grandma?"
When I replied, "Really?", my grandson exclaimed in surprise, "Wow!" and said "Kurotetsu," then commented, "Grandma, you're good at acting." Another grandson asked, "I only want to tell my best friend, what do you think?" I told him it would be better not to reveal it because people would say all sorts of things. After that, my grandson seemed to have taken an interest, saying, "I've started coming to see you perform on stage and things like that from time to time."
She created a will as part of her "end-of-life planning." "I have children and grandchildren, you know. I don't want them to fight over it when I die. I don't have any assets at all, and I'm thinking of reducing them even more now, but there's the house that will remain, so I asked someone who could help me with that, and I went ahead and created the will." She laughed as she said that when she went to the notary office to "pick up the notarized will," they told her, "Congratulations, Ms. Mita," and "If you do this, you'll be free afterwards and can die without having to think about anything."
