Swimmer Daiya Seto appeared on "Masahiro Higashide's Camping Detox" (produced by Asahi Broadcasting Corporation), which was streamed on ABEMA on May 18th, and looked back on past scandals.
Seto won a bronze medal in the men's 400-meter individual medley at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. In 2019, he won two gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships, securing his place in the Tokyo Olympics in two events. Recalling the situation at the time, he said, "I was determined to win at least one gold medal in 2020, and I was in great form. But then the Tokyo Olympics were postponed..."
Regarding her feelings at the time, she confessed, "My own feelings couldn't keep up. And there was the difficulty of maintaining that condition for another year. I thought that was my peak, so I couldn't accept it within myself. I kind of became like, 'Whatever happens, happens...'"
Furthermore, in response to a question from Masahiro Higashide about the past scandal, he said, "There were many things I regretted because of the scandal," and regarding its impact on his athletic career, he revealed his struggles at the time, saying, "It was very obvious. I often turned to alcohol to escape. I don't want to see anyone anymore."
