NHK General's "The Butterfly Effect of Images" (Mondays at 10 PM) will air "60 Years of Fate Between Central and South America and the United States" on May 18th. In January of this year, the United States took military action in Venezuela and arrested the president who held an anti-American stance. The program will trace the story of the fateful conflict that unfolded in Central and South America, which the United States called its "backyard."
The Cuban Revolution, which established South America's first socialist state, became a bitter memory for the United States. Since then, to prevent a second Cuba, the U.S. established the "School of Americas," a military training academy in Panama known as the "School of Dictators," to cultivate pro-American military leaders. Using these leaders, the U.S. repeatedly intervened whenever leaders clashed with American national interests. This program traces the 60-year history of conflict between the U.S. and Central and South America, from Chile and Panama to present-day Venezuela. Narrated by announcer Toshie Ito.
