It has been revealed that "Mobile Suit Gundam," the first installment in the popular "Gundam" anime series, will be remastered. The aim is to release the first installment worldwide in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the "Gundam" series in 2029. The release is planned for 2029. The announcement was made on May 15th at the "Gundam Conference SPRING 2026" streamed on YouTube.
It was also announced that new footage for the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing" will be produced. Naohiro Ogata, a director at Bandai Namco Filmworks, said of the new footage, "It's quite long. I hope everyone will look forward to it."
It has also been announced that an exhibition of the works of director Yoshiyuki Tomino, known as the creator of the series, tentatively titled "Yoshiyuki Tomino Exhibition," will be held at the Tokyo National Museum (Taito Ward, Tokyo) in 2029. The exhibition will look back on Director Tomino's career, and further details will be announced in the future.
The 50th anniversary event, "GUNDAM-Con," will be held at Makuhari Messe (Mihama-ku, Chiba City) from January Getsuku to 11th, 2027. World tournaments for Gunpla, cards, and games, which were previously held separately, are planned to be held within the event. The launch of the Gundam Landmark concept was also announced, which involves creating a "new Gundam facility" within Japan.
It has also been announced that April 7th has been designated as "Gundam Day" by the Japan Anniversary Association. This designation commemorates the first broadcast of "Mobile Suit Gundam" on April 7, 1979.
It has also been announced that the life-sized Unicorn Gundam statue, which has been on display in Odaiba, Tokyo since September 2017, will cease its exhibition at the end of August. Towards the finale, it will be displayed with new decorations, and various events are planned.
As part of the 50th anniversary project, a video titled "Boy and Gundam: Mobile Suit Gundam 50th Anniversary -Road to 50- Prologue Movie" was also released.
