A special program featuring singer Seiko Matsuda, titled "The Covers Special: Seiko Matsuda ~Masterpieces Presented with NHK's Rare Footage~," will be broadcast on NHK General TV on May 7th at 10 PM. This special program allows viewers to enjoy Matsuda's precious masterpieces along with rare footage from the station's archives. From her early days on "Let's Go Young" to "Pop Jam," and even her performance at last year's "Kohaku Uta Gassen," the program will showcase many of her most beloved songs in their full versions, including long versions with the chorus intact.
Matsuda debuted on April 1, 1980, with "Hadashi no Kisetsu" (Barefoot Season), and last year marked her 45th anniversary. Her timeless voice and hit songs are now gaining support from younger generations and international artists alike, and many of Matsuda's hit songs have been covered by numerous artists on NHK's music program "The Covers."
This program is a re-edited version of the show that aired on NHK BS in April of this year, and highlights include her fresh appearance in her early career as well as the fashion and hairstyles that became a social phenomenon. In addition to famous songs written by many musicians such as Takashi Matsumoto, Kazuo Zaitsu, Eiichi Ohtaki, Yumi Matsutoya, Haruomi Hosono, and Ami Ozaki, the program also features footage of her biggest hit song, "Anata ni Aitakute ~Missing You~," which she wrote and composed herself, as well as "Aisaretai no" and "Fuyu no Yousei," which are loved by many fans and continue to be sung at her concerts.
