"Detective! Night Scoop" (ABC TV, Fridays at 11:17 PM) is a popular variety show where "detectives" tackle bizarre requests and worries submitted by viewers. On April 24th, Detective Matsui Kemuri investigated the request, "I want to become the world champion in wasabi eating speed!"
The request came from a 44-year-old man from Shizuoka Prefecture. The man will be participating in the "World Wasabi Grating Speed Eating Championship" held in Kawazu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture. As a man, he wants to win at least one world champion title. This competition is a world championship where participants grate fresh wasabi themselves, put it on rice, and compete to see who can finish eating the "wasabi rice bowl" the fastest.
I'm practicing for the competition, but the wasabi is so strong that I can't eat it. At this rate, becoming a world champion seems like an impossible dream. I'm asking if you could help me somehow to win the title of world champion.
The competition requires eating 110 grams of fresh wasabi, but the client has only ever managed to eat half a 45-gram tube of wasabi. Moreover, when he tried 90 grams, he made a face of agony that made his eyes almost pop out. Yet, he is confident that the tube wasabi is spicier than fresh wasabi.
Actually, there are only 20 participants in this world competition, and this is the first time it's being held. The client's friend, Mr. Omori, immediately entered the first half, while the client and Detective Kemuri entered the second half. They were allowed to choose the amount of rice, so they devised various strategies, but 110 grams of wasabi proved to be an enormous amount, leading to a series of dropouts!
