The first episode of the TBS Friday drama "Tagusari Brothers," starring actor Masaki Okada and also featuring Shota Sometani, aired on April 17th. Viewers expressed their suspicion that Koki Mogi (Takashi Yamanaka), the owner of the local Chinese restaurant "Mocchan," who has supported the Tagusari brothers, Makoto (Okada) and his younger brother Minoru (Sometani), for 30 years since their parents were murdered, was "too suspicious."
◇The following contains spoilers.
The drama follows Detective Makoto and Medical Examiner Minoru as they investigate heinous crimes that occur daily and pursue the true culprit in the murder of their parents, a case that expired just two days before the statute of limitations was abolished. This is the latest work from producer Junko Arai, who has worked on hit crime suspense works such as the film "Last Mile" and the dramas "Unnatural," "MIU404," and "Saiai."
Koki, nicknamed "Mocchan," is like an older brother to Makoto and Minoru, who have lost their parents.
One day, when Makoto and Minoru went to "Mocchan's," the automatic door wouldn't work. It wasn't locked, so Makoto opened the door with practiced ease, and the two went inside. Mocchan wasn't there, but Makoto said, "Let's go ahead and have a drink," and opened a bottle of beer from the shop without asking, and started drinking.
"What are you guys doing? You shouldn't be talking about the incident in a place like this."
When Mocchan returned to the shop carrying a cardboard box full of ingredients, he pointed out, "I overheard a bit of the story (about the incident)." Makoto made excuses, saying, "It's okay if it's Mocchan."
The scene shifts to a 1995 scene of Mocchan watching a television news report about the "Tagusari Family Murder Case," in which both parents were murdered and Minoru was attacked.
Social media was buzzing with comments like, "Mocchan seems too suspicious... I'm sorry if he's just a good guy," "The fact that Takashi Yamanaka is playing the role of Mocchan makes him seem suspicious. In any case, Mocchan is definitely a key person," "I have no basis for this, but ever since the cast was announced, I have a hunch that Mocchan (Takashi Yamanaka) is the culprit. But if I'm right, I might cry," and "If Mocchan is the culprit, I won't be able to recover, so I hope it's a red herring."
