The latest theatrical film in the popular anime series " Doraemon, " based on the original work by Fujiko F. Fujio, " Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's New Nobita Adventure in the South Seas," was released on February 27th and has reportedly surpassed 4 billion yen in box office revenue in just 52 days. It has been a hit, with over 3.18 million viewers.
To commemorate the film's success, the opening sequences of all 44 films in the "Doraemon" movie series have been released on YouTube. From the first film, "Nobita's Dinosaur," released in 1980, to "Nobita's Picture World Story," released in 2025, the opening sequences are a special collection of videos condensing the many adventures of Doraemon and his friends.
The latest film is a reimagining of "Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Great Adventure in the South Seas," originally released in 1983 and long beloved by fans, approximately 43 years later. Doraemon and his friends embark on a grand adventure in a mysterious and enigmatic underwater world.
The film is directed by Tetsuo Yajima, who has worked on storyboards and direction for the TV anime "Doraemon," as well as participating in "Nobita's New Great Adventure into the Underworld: The Seven Magic Users" (2007), "Nobita and the Steel Troops: The New Adventure: The Angels" (2011), and "Nobita's Earth Symphony" (2024). The script is written by Isao Murayama, who has worked on numerous episodes of the TV anime "Doraemon." Voice actors Shoya Chiba plays El, a soldier of the Mu Federation, the country of the underwater people, and Ryo Hirohashi plays the secret gadget, the Underwater Buggy. In addition to the regular version, the film will also be shown in 4D for the first time in the "Doraemon" movie series.
