A stage greeting event celebrating the release of " Detective Conan: Fallen Angel on the Highway," the latest theatrical film in the popular anime series "Detective Conan, " based on the manga by Gosho Aoyama , was held on April 11th at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya (Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo), with voice actors including Shinichiro Miki, who plays Kenji Hagiwara, in attendance. Standing on stage, Miki said, "I am overwhelmed with emotion to be here today."
Kenji Hagiwara was the younger brother of Chihaya Hagiwara, the main character of the film, and was formerly a member of the riot police's bomb disposal unit. He died in the line of duty during a bombing incident. Miki said, "I get nervous when I think about him. He had his future stolen from him, and yet he is remembered so much in a future without him. I want to tell him, 'You are loved.'" When asked about the charm of Kenji Hagiwara's sister, Chihaya Hagiwara, she said, "She's wonderful. I think she's a wonderful, invincible, and respectable sister."
The stage greeting featured Minami Takayama(voice of Conan Edogawa), Miyuki Sawashiro(voice of Chihaya Hagiwara), Rikiya Koyama (voice of Kogoro Mouri), Akio Otsuka(voice of Shigeo Yokomizo), Ryusei Yokohama ( voice of Kazuaki Omae), Mei Hata (voice of Minato Tateoki), and director Takahiro Hasui.
The 29th film in the series, "Fallen Angel on the Highway," opened on April 10th in 526 theaters, the largest release in the series' history. This surpasses the 522 theaters for the previous film. On its opening day, it grossed 1.13 billion yen and attracted over 739,000 viewers. This is approximately 107% of the box office revenue of "Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback," which was released last year and grossed approximately 14.74 billion yen, marking the biggest hit opening in the series' history.
In "The Fallen Angel of the Highway," the setting is Yokohama, where Conan and his friends are visiting the Kanagawa Motorcycle Festival when a mysterious black motorcycle suddenly appears, speeding out of control. Chasing it is Chihaya Hagiwara, a police officer from the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Traffic Mobile Unit, whom Ran had seen before and known as the "Goddess of Wind." Later at the festival, the latest technology-equipped police motorcycle, "Angel," is unveiled. Meanwhile, in Tokyo, a black motorcycle ("Lucifer") goes on a rampage.
"Detective Conan" is a manga series depicting the adventures of Conan Edogawa as he solves a series of difficult cases. It began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan) in 1994. The cumulative circulation of the comic books exceeds 270 million copies. The TV anime has been airing since 1996, and the first theatrical film, "Detective Conan: The Time-Bombed Skyscraper," was released in 1997.
The 28th Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback of the One-Eyed Man," released in 2025, grossed approximately 14.6 billion yen, setting new records for Japanese films by surpassing 10 billion yen in box office revenue for the third consecutive year and exceeding 10 million viewers for the second consecutive year.
