Actress Kyoka Suzuki appeared at a press conference held in Tokyo on April Getsuku for the TV Asahi Thursday drama "Unsolved Cases: Metropolitan Police Department Document Investigator Season 3" (Thursdays at 9 PM, starting April 16th). She asked her co-star Kazuki Sawamura, "Since when have you been called 'Sexy Department Head' and 'Baron XX'?"
Suzuki, who has co-starred with Sawamura for 30 years, said, "When we first co-starred in a drama, he didn't give off that image at all. I thought he was a very refreshing person. He's still refreshing now, of course, but..." She added that she was surprised when he suddenly became known to the public as "Sexy Department Head, Sexy Representative."
When Suzuki asked, "We've known each other for 30 years, but since when (laughs)?", Sawamura immediately replied, "To be precise, since a past life. Since birth." When Suzuki asked, "You weren't in the public eye back then?", he said, "I was looking at the other person carefully... These days, it's like business interference, or rather, 'compliance' is a big issue (laughs). At first, it was really hard to talk about those kinds of things with Kyoka Suzuki. I was throwing the ball slowly, and it took 30 years to finally throw the ball. Lately, we sometimes talk about those kinds of things, don't we?" which drew laughter from the audience.
When Suzuki expressed his gratitude, saying, "There's no one else who can fill the set with so much laughter," Sawamura called out to the audience, "I don't always talk about things like that (laughs)," and added, "I've been careful lately. It's become a difficult time to live in. I try to be mindful of moderation when I'm throwing the ball."
"Unsolved Cases: Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Document Investigator" is a mystery series in which detectives investigate unsolved cases using written documents as clues. It started in April 2018, and this is the third season, approximately six years later. Amid a crisis threatening the survival of the 6th Section (Document Deciphering Section) of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's First Investigation Division's "Special Investigation Task Force," the brilliant detective Narumi Risa (Suzuki) and her younger superior, the new section chief Mutsu Hinako (Kuroshima Yuina), team up as partners to tackle difficult cases.
