Singer Ryudo Uzaki and his wife, lyricist Yoko Aki, will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on July 3rd at 1pm.
Both are in their 80s and are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary. Including the time they met in college, they've spent over 60 years together. During this time, they've written and composed numerous hit songs. Interestingly, they haven't celebrated anniversaries since the beginning of their marriage.
Uzaki has been singing for over half a century, and reveals the efforts she has made, including attending vocal training for over 20 years. She also mentions that recently, 30 minutes of cleaning has become a daily routine.
Ms. Aki has reportedly started taking singing lessons at the age of 80 as a new challenge. She says that she has approached singing from the perspective of a lyricist, but that there have been changes as well. The chorus group that Ms. Aki leads will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year. People of all ages gather and talk about the importance of the bonds that music creates.
