It has been announced that the comedy duo "Two Tribe" will be appearing as guest voice actors in the new TV anime adaptation of "High School! Kimengumi," a comedy manga by Shinzawa Motoei that was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) in the 1980s. They will appear in episode 10, "Let's Go School Trip," with Shuhei Tamashii playing the role of the old man and Benkei Robot, and Takanori playing the role of Rider and a male character. The series was originally adapted into an anime from 1985 to 1987, marking its first anime adaptation in approximately 39 years.
Shuhei Tamashii said, "I remember watching the 1985 anime a ton, so I was happy to be able to appear in a show that I watched back then." Takanori said, "It's nice to make your voice acting debut in an old comedy manga. When I saw this recording on my schedule, I was surprised and thought, 'Why?!' (laughs)."
The original series began as "3-nen Kimengumi" in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1980, and was renamed "High School! Kimengumi" in 1982 as the characters progressed to higher education. It's a slapstick school comedy featuring the Kimengumi, a group of five middle school students: Ichidou Rei, Reikoshi Go, Idese Kiyoshi, Oma Jin, and Monohoshi Dai, along with Kawa Yui and Uru Chie. The TV anime, which aired from 1985 to 1987, also gained popularity with its theme song, sung by Ushiroyubi Sasaregumi, a spin-off unit of the idol group Onyanko Club.
The new anime will be directed by Kazuaki Seki, known for films such as "Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist's Journey" and "Beethoven Fabrication," and produced by Animation Studio Seven. It will be broadcast every Friday at 11:30 pm on Fuji TV's anime slot "Noitamina."
The full comment from Two Tribe is as follows:
-How did you feel when you received the offer to appear?
I remember watching Shuhei Tamashii (the 1985 anime) a lot, so I was so happy to be able to appear in a work that I watched back then.
It's nice that Takanori's voice acting debut is in a classic comedy manga. When I saw this recording on the schedule, I was surprised and asked "Why?!" (laughs).
I heard rumors that Shuhei Tamashii and THE SECOND worked hard...
Takanori- san, I'm really glad you won.
-How was the dubbing recording?
Takanori-san said, "You can speak out loud like that!" It's okay to speak out louder than just in a theatrical voice, so that your voice can be heard.
Shuhei Tamashii is trying to speak out loud, but it feels like his voice isn't reaching the audience. Like he's far away. Even though it's a short line, I thought, "Is my throat going to get sore?" (laughs). Tomokazu Seki's voice carries well and the sense of realism is amazing. My own voice lacks realism.
--There are many different groups that appear in "High School! Kimengumi," but which "group" do you think you belong to?
Shuhei Tamashii is from the "nuance group," the "group that enjoys nuance." In high school, I made sure to convey to those around me the nuance that I wasn't a delinquent, so the lunch lady would give me extra noodles and treat me kindly. This is nuance, isn't it?
Takanori-san, what's the matter? I was in the "group that gets along with everyone" group, regardless of whether I was what we would call an introvert or an extrovert today.
Even though you're Shuhei-san , you're in the "hot dog group." You ate a hot dog from both ends with your girlfriend at the time...
Takanori-san , I still have photos like that, but you don't need to mention it.
Shuhei Tamashii was like, "Who's taking the photo?" His hairstyle also looked like GLAY's TERU.
Takanori-san , I took that photo. Anyway, I'm in the "group that can get along with both" group!
Shuhei Tamashii: I can understand eating a hot dog from both ends, but taking a photo of it is... You're part of the "hot dog photo group." There are only two of you in Japan, you and your girlfriend at the time. It was shocking.
--Kamengumi is a group of five who have fun every day, but have you ever thought recently that you're glad to be a duo?
When Takanori-san came into this (dubbing studio), I thought, "It'd be bad if I was alone!" (laughs). Actually, my manager couldn't come today either because he wasn't feeling well. I feel that way when I come to a non-comedy set like this.
Shuhei Tamashii's first time going to a location for business. I think solo artists are amazing.
When Takanori was doing the opening act at Yoshimoto Gion Kagetsu, my partner overslept and I ended up doing it alone. I couldn't do anything and it was really scary...
Even if Shuhei makes a lot of mistakes or gets scolded, he has the insurance of being able to laugh about it as long as he has a partner. In that sense, it's like I'm eating a hot dog with Takanori. I feel like I'm literally playing a part in the edge of the hot dog.
--The Kimengumi members live their lives making the most of their individuality, but what are some of the unique aspects of each of you?
Shuhei Tamashii's unique side? He eats a hot dog from both ends with his girlfriend and takes a photo of it. That's his hobby and his special skill. Takanori doesn't look like that...
Takanori-san, are you still talking about that?! (laughs) There are times when comedians don't use their "strange side" to their advantage, but there are also times when it's precisely because of their "strange side" that they succeed. I'm not good at tsukkomi, but in my own way, I see it as a positive thing in that it helps me to show my individuality.
-Finally, please give a message to the viewers.
In episode 10 of Shuhei Tamashii , we only appear for a few seconds, so make sure you don't miss it, and don't make the mistake of watching while eating a hot dog, but concentrate.
Although Takanori 's work was created 40 years ago, it is relevant to the current era and can be enjoyed by people of all ages, so I hope you will watch it while looking for our voices!
