It has been revealed that Aniplex and KADOKAWA have jointly invested to establish a film distribution company called Animec.
The new company will specialize in the distribution sales and promotion of animated feature films, and aims to be "an entity that co-creates value with everyone involved in the works, including fans, content holders, and theater staff."
The company name is a combination of "Anime" and "Cinema." "Animec" was also the name of an anime magazine that was published until the 1980s, and after reporting this to Shinichiro Inoue, a former deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine at KADOKAWA, the company decided to use it as the name of the new company.
