Former NHK announcer and now freelance announcer Miki Sumiyoshi will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which will be broadcast at 1:00 pm on February 20th. Sumiyoshi spent her elementary school years in the United States and high school years in Canada, and is fluent in English. During her time at NHK, she was in charge of major projects such as live broadcasts from World Heritage sites.
Her father worked for a trading company, but one day he suddenly quit his job and announced that he was moving to Canada. He bought a house there and Canada became his "home." He went on to university in Japan and worked for NHK, when one day he received a call that his father had died in a traffic accident. He was 54 years old.
Recently, when she was sorting through her father's belongings after closing down her family home, she came across the original faxed letter encouraging her as she struggled to find work in Japan. She said she was once again grateful for the handwritten letter from her father, who was thinking about his daughter's future and encouraging her.
