It was revealed on February 14th that Miyadate Ryota from the popular group Snow Man will be starring in the drama series "If I Fall in Love with a Terminator" (TV Asahi, Saturdays at 11pm), which starts on April 4th. This will be Miyadate's first time starring in a drama series, and he will play a "handsome android from 400 years in the future."
The drama is a sci-fi romantic comedy about a love story between a heroine in her 40s and an android who comes from the future to protect her from an unknown target. Miyadate plays the android Tokizawa Eta. Usuda Asami plays the heroine Kamio Kurumi, who works at a publishing company and is dedicated to her work but has always found romance a drag.
Miyadate frankly admitted that he was confused by the drama's title, saying, "I thought, 'What on earth are they talking about!?' (laughs)," but he also revealed how he decided to appear in the drama, saying, "I was impressed by the proposal, which was full of the staff's attention to detail, so I asked them to let me do it!" Regarding his role, he said, "I pay attention to my mannerisms, such as how far I extend my arms when I walk and the angle at which I step out. I think about things like what an android would do when turning a corner every day."
This was his first time acting alongside Usuda. When asked about his impression of her, he said, "I had the impression that she was a quiet person, but she also has a sense of humor and is always smiling. I really feel that she is a source of comfort to the staff. She really brings a sense of calm to the set!", describing the harmonious atmosphere on set.
He said that the presence of Snow Man members active in dramas and movies serves as a benchmark, commenting, "Several of our members have played leading roles, so I've only just realized what they must have been thinking at times like this... and I feel the weight of working together as a group and on dramas."
He appealed to viewers, saying, "Not only myself, but the cast and staff are filming every day with love. While filming, I often feel warm and fuzzy thinking, 'I would be happy to hear such words,' so I hope you enjoy the show."
TV Asahi producer Kanda Emi Akiko expressed her expectations, saying, "I offered the role to Miyadate because I thought that only Miyadate could make the fantastical setting of a humanoid robot coming from the future convincing and also portray the role with realism. I think it is very difficult to play a non-human character such as a robot, but I am sure that Miyadate will be able to use his imagination to the fullest and play a robot unlike anything we have ever seen before."
